JEAN SUN SHAW is founder and managing principal of LIFE'S JOURNEY, LLC - a personal and professional development company providing coaching to professionals seeking to make meaningful changes in their lives. She views life as lived from an authentic place, grounded in integrity to one's self and to one's community.
Jean has lived most of her life in an international environment and has acquired a deep appreciation for the complexities that contribute to identity formation, as well as the challenges that individuals face as they travel their own paths of individuation. She has an understanding of racial-cultural identity development issues, and weaves these insights and her professional training into highly personalized coaching services to multicultural clients.
Jean's early years were spent in Taipei, Bangkok and Manila. She has lived in the United States for over thirty years and has had a successful professional experience working for multinationals which spanned multiple disciplines, including legal, commodities trading, management consulting, and information systems sales. In 1993, Jean returned to an early interest in counseling and subsequently founded LIFE'S JOURNEY, LLC.
Active in her community, Jean has served on the board of the Asian American Federation of New York, and supports many other cultural and educational non-profit organizations such as the New York Asian Women's Center, American Ballet Theatre, Career Transition for Dancers, and Cancer Care. She has lectured to the New York community on career management strategies, and has presented at the annual convention of National Association of Asian American Professionals, as well as the Asian Diversity Conference and Career Expo. Jean is also a member of the Asian American Psychological Association.
Jean received an undergraduate degree in economics at Moravian College, and an M.A. in International Relations at The Graduate School Of International Studies, University Of Denver; and an M.A and Ed.M. In Psychological Counseling from Columbia University. She was a 2002 fellow of the Asian Pacific American Women's Leadership Institute, and currently serves on its board. She has trained in a post-graduate certification program in coaching with College of Executive Coaching, the leader in coach training for professionals with graduate degrees.
In her spare time, Jean enjoys raising orchids, attending the ballet and opera, and sharing a good meal with old friends. She lives with her husband, Lawrence in New York City.
